DALLAS, TX (NBC News) Dallas Police Chief David Brown said Monday he has no regrets over using a small bomb to kill police shooter Micah Johnson.

“I’d do it again. I’d do it again to save our officers’ lives,” Brown said.

Brown says while Johnson was hiding on the second floor of El Centro College in downtown Dallas, he made it clear he wanted to kill more officers.

Several people were hiding, terrified, in the building during the standoff.

Investigators are pouring over Johnson’s writing, phones and computers, going through the home he shared with his mother. It’s there they found a stockpile of weapons and bomb-making materials.

Johnson’s parents told the website “The Blaze” his demeanor changed, becoming more reclusive after he returned from serving in Afghanistan.

The department is hurting as officers deal with the investigation into the shooting, the policing responsibilities of the day-to-day and the upcoming services for those they lost.

“I think the chief said it best this morning: We’re hurting we’re all hurting. This rocked some guys to their core who I thought were unshakable,” said Parkland’s Medical Director Dr. Alexander L. Eastman.

But “this city needs us to keep moving forward. This is a time for us to all come together,” Eastman said.
