PIKETON, Ohio (WCMH)–Police say charges of inducing will be filed against two juveniles in connection with a prank 911 call creating the impression of an active shooter situation inside Piketon High School.

Piketon Police Chief Mike Blair says the call came in at 2:37 p.m. Wednesday.

“The juvenile seemed to have practiced or rehearsed what he wanted to say when he did call 911 because it was very specific,” Blair said.

The caller told the 911 dispatcher, “They’re shooting at Piketon high school. There is someone dead inside. Sorry, I have to go.”

The school was placed on lockdown. Sophomores Autumn Young and Chase Newton say they spent about 40 minutes locked in a back room of the library.

Student Blake Reader says everyone did what they were supposed to do.

“Teachers took responsibility, locked us up in the room, had us sit quietly, lights off and all that stuff,” Reader said.

Officers searched the building.

“It was a pretty eerie feeling to check that many rooms and not knowing whether there was someone there or not,” Blair said.

There was no shooter, and no one was injured.

The police investigation quickly led to an 11-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl. Chief Blair says investigators now have school bus video of the middle schoolers making the 911 call while on the bus.

The two juveniles will be charged with misuse of 911, tampering with evidence, inducing panic and making terrorist threats.
