A homeless man’s personal sign prompted an outpouring of community support to help fulfill what the man was asking for — a job.

Jasmine Scofield first posted a photo of homeless college grad David Casarez on Friday.

Scofield tells KRON4 she was pulling up to the stop light on the corner of El Camino and San Antonio in Mountain View when she spotted David.

His sign read, “Homeless Hungry 4 Success Take A Resume.”

She then posted a photo of David’s resume on Twitter.

According to David’s resume, he graduated from Texas A&M University in 2014 with a degree in Management Information Systems. He then held various positions with General Motors starting right after college to September of 2017.

Jasmine says she spoke to David on the phone to learn more about him and his story.

“He came to Silicon Valley with a dream to be successful in tech and has a lot to offer the community. He’s sleeping in parks and still trying to get freelance work, interviews, and applications in,” Jasmine said.

The community was quick to show support in helping David get hired.

People on social media even started his very own hashtag — #GetDavidAJob.

From fellow Aggies to people who could just relate to struggling in the Bay Area, the photo of David spread like wildfire.

One person on Twitter reached out saying he went to college with David and called him “a great person” who “went to chase his dream in Cali.”

That same college buddy of David’s soon messaged him afterward and it seems like David was oblivious to all the Twitter fame.

“I’ve been overwhelmed in a very good way. Can’t believe the amount of support coming my way… keeping my head up,” David says.

David’s story maintained a presence on social media into Saturday and Jasmine, who first shared the photos of David on Twitter, had a great update to share.

It seems as if the Twitterverse helped push David along in the right direction.

“Google, Netflix, LinkedIn, and many other companies have already reached out,” Jasmine posted Saturday morning.

“Moving to the Silicon Valley is overwhelming if you don’t have the finances and established network. I’ve struggled like he has out here, been close to his position, so it hit close to home and I knew I needed to use my platforms to try and help,” said Jasmine, who works in finance.

We totally agree with April on this one.

“Sometimes, the internet is completely wonderful.”
