‘Dateline: Deadly Dance’ unveils courtroom twist in Florida murder case

(NBC News) — On Friday, “Dateline” focuses on a Florida case with a courtroom twist, a story that made national headlines as the “Black Swan” murder trial.

Here is a preview of Andrea Canning’s report:

It takes grace, strength, and passion to make it as a ballerina, 29-year-old Ashley Benefield had all that, plus the perfect partner to share her dreams.

DAVID BENEFIELD: He was a star athlete — a friend to everybody.

SARA MURAWSKI: They are the most in love couple I think I’ve ever met in my life.

But one warm autumn night, a frantic 911 call came in from Lakewood Ranch, 59-year-old Doug Benefield was bleeding on the bedroom floor. First responders rushed him to the hospital.

Left behind, four bullet casings and a love story that had spiraled out of control.

STEPHANIE MURPHY: Every time I thought, “This is the craziest thing I’ve ever heard,” then I would hear something else.

Watch “Dateline: Deadly Dance” Friday at 10 p.m. on NBC4.
