Mysterious death of suburban mom Nada Huranieh sparks murder investigation on ‘Dateline’

(NBC News) — An all-new hour of “Dateline” examines the mysterious death of a suburban mother Nada Huranieh whose body was found on the patio by her 14-year-old daughter.

What appeared to be a tragic, accidental fall led to a murder investigation. On Friday’s episode, “Dateline” correspondent Keith Morrison talks to Aya Altantawi about what it was like to find an open window on the top floor of her house and see her mother unmoving below.

Here is a preview of Morrison’s report:

The sun was barely up when the girl called 911.

AYA ALTANTAWI: We need an ambulance! Oh my God.

That’s her running as fast as she can, toward the terrible thing at her home. Her name is Aya Altantawi. The crime that ended her childhood was years ago but discovering what happened that morning? That has filled up all those years.

AYA ALTANTAWI: I remember screaming but it’s, it’s like in those movies where the character’s like, “Oh I screamed, but  I didn’t realize it was coming from me.”

She was screaming at the sight of her mother, lying face up on the patio, still in her pajamas. And not moving.

AYA ALTANTAWI: None of it felt real. Like none of it felt real.

But it was real. Real the way a shadow is real when it exposes what lies behind.

Watch “Dateline: The Shadow in the Window” Friday at 10 p.m. on NBC4.
