A 16-year-old boy from Tampa has passed away from injuries suffered in a fireworks explosion, according to Tampa police.
Police say they were called to a home on Osborne Avenue in Tampa just before midnight for a report of a fireworks explosion.
A 16-year-old boy was shooting off a mortar round of fireworks from a tube. The tube exploded unexpectedly in the boy’s hand.
He was taken to Tampa General Hospital with extremely critical injuries to his left hand and chest cavity.
Shortly after, News Channel 8 learned the boy passed away from his injuries.
The boy’s name has not been released.
Tampa police are investigating.
