Unusual number of pet deaths in North Columbus neighborhood

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — The Capital Area Humane Society is alerting the Linden neighborhood to an ‘unusual’ amount of pet deaths in the area.

In a Facebook post the Humane Society says many ‘fear pets have been exposed to poison’ after reports that a number of cats, and one dog has died in the last week and a half in the 1100 block of Minnesota Avenue between McGuffey and Hamilton Ave.

So far, the Humane Society hasn’t been able to get a body for a necropsy because people are disposing of them.

Communications Manager Mary Hiser says there isn’t direct evidence that area pets are being poisoned and she says if they are, it may not be intentional.

The Humane Society recommends keeping pets inside when they’re not being directly supervised, checking your yard for anything out of the ordinary before giving pets access, and keeping an eye out for potential poisonous sources.

If you happen to come across a deceased pet, the Humane Society is asking that you secure it in a plastic bag and save it for pick-up by a humane agent.

The Humane Society also wants anyone in the neighborhood to contact them in the case that their pet dies, to determine the cause.

You can call the Humane Society at (614)777-7387 ext. 250.What others are clicking on:
