WEST JEFFERSON, OH (WCMH)–A West Jefferson family is feeling the support of their community after waking up to their home vandalized – with a slur apparently directed at their disabled son spray painted on their garage door.

12-year-old Jayden Clark suffers from duchenne muscular dystrophy and said it made him sad when he saw the derogatory slur Sunday morning. Since then, his community has tried to put a smile back on his face – and they’ve succeeded.
As photos of the vandalism spread on social media, support for Jayden online and in his neighborhood. The Columbus Riders, a motorcycle club, came to West Jefferson and led Jayden lead them on a parade through town.
Jayden’s father Steve said the community support had many in tears, but he was still upset that someone would verbally attack his family.
“It angers me no matter what, even if it wasn’t my child. I wouldn’t want to see any child bullied like this,” he said. “Just because of his disability doesn’t mean that his mind is any different than anyone else’s.”
A local siding company has offered to help repair the home and others are offering a cash reward to information that leads to catching the vandal.
“Have a heart, turn yourself in,” Steve said. “Eventually you’re going to get caught. The best way to do it is say, ‘hey I made a wrong, let me make it right.'”Reporter Matt Edwards is following this story and will have the latest coming up on NBC4 at 11.
