DAYTON, OH (WDTN) –  Dayton Police released video Friday from World of Wonder at Residence Park School where a 7-year-old girl was stabbed on the playground.

Surveillance video shows a man approaching the school playground from the parking lot, which in the upper right of the screen. The suspects walks in the grassy area to the swing where two children are playing and then attacks one of them.

Dayton Police did not release the part of the video that shows the stabbing. The child was taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital and is now in critical condition.

You then see the suspect run away from the school area the way he came in. He was last seen running toward Kammer Avenue.

Police began searching the area for the suspect with a K9 and talking to neighbors looking for any information they could in their efforts to find out who is responsible.

Police detectives and officers are looking for:

  • Black male with a light complexion
  • 5’8″-5’10″, medium build
  • 18-20 years old
  • Short hair
  • Blue or beige gym shorts
  • Tan or green hooded sweatshirt
  • Orange undershirt.

Investigators don’t know why this particular child was attacked. They say it is early in the investigation and they have a lot of work to do. According to police there was at least one teacher on the playground with the students at the time of the attack.

A parent we spoke with told us her children attend that school.

“Crazy, it’s sickening because my two kids actually go here. So for it to happen at my kids’ school it’s sickening. It’s heartbreaking and I don’t understand why someone would come and do that to a second-grader,” the parent said.

Dayton Police Department homicide detectives are asking for your help finding the suspect in this attack. Police say if you have any information, no matter how insignificant you believe it may be, to call the Dayton Police at 333-COOPS or Crime Stoppers at 222-STOP (7867).What others are clicking on:
