LANSING, MI (WLNS) – Imagine ending up in the hospital for heart surgery, just hours before you’re set to leave for a trip to be at your daughter’s wedding.

That’s what happened to a local man who was set to travel to London Wednesday.

Sparrow Hospital employees set the proud father up to celebrate from thousands of miles away with some high-tech help.

Photojournalist Eric Ripper explained how it all happened.

Video: “Hi.” “Hello.”

“Yeah I’m still here but you can put me anywhere,” said father Mike Jenkins, beaming.

Jenkins: “Good, good”

Jenkins: “It was fun”

Jenkins: “We realized if we had Wi-Fi and if we had an iPad and we had it here too that we could go back and forth and we could really make it interactive and we could make it happening as we spoke and that’s what happened.”

Video: “Here we go, one more! Okay hold on”

Jenkins: “Cheers”

Jenkins: “We had photographers coming in. They were taking pictures of me getting ready and it really kinda sunk in, this is like the real thing, this is the real thing!”

Jenkins: “There was tiny bit of happiness crying, but mostly just I think my face is just beaming, I was just smiling all the time, I mean I’ve been smiling since I got up and I haven’t stopped since.”

Jenkins: “Okay, piece of cake someone?”What others are clicking on:
