CORNELIUS, OR (WCMH) – An amazing fire phenomenon was caught on camera near Portland, Oregon.

The Cornelius Fire Department shot this video and shared the footage with CNN.

This is a fire tornado, also known as a “firenado” or a “fire whirl.” They are created when the heat from a wildfire or brush fire creates its own wind. That wind can then turn into a dangerous, spinning vortex of flames.

Firenadoes are not really rare, but they are rarely documented on video.

Crews were eventually able to put out the fire. Nobody got hurt.
