SINGAPORE (WCMH)–A Russian tennis player gave herself a courtside haircut during her match at the Women’s Tennis Association finals on Monday.
Svetlana Kuznetsova chopped off her thick braid after losing the second set 1-6.
BBC News reports that Kuznetsova asked the umpire for a pair of scissors and went to work shearing off her hair.
“It was bothering me a lot,” she said to the BBC. “When I was hitting the forehands I hit a good shot and it would hit my eye. I thought, ‘what’s more important? My hair, which can grow, or the match?'”
Opponent Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland said she agreed with Kuznetsova’s priorities, but admitted she didn’t even notice the haircut.
“Good thing she didn’t cut her anything else,” Radwanska is quoted as saying. “I think hair is not very important.”
Kuznetsova ended up beating Radwanska 7-5 1-6 7-5. She will play in the semi-finals next, having won her match Wednesday as well.
