BOSTON, MA (WCMH) — When 2-year-old Callia Range met a ballerina for the first time, her time in physical therapy began to pay off.
According to WBZ-TV, Callia has been diagnosed with significant gross motor delays.
“Basically she lived her life with her arms off to her sides and her legs out straight and her toes pointed. She was unable and also fearful to move outside of that,” says her mother Laura.
But early intervention and therapy she began to gain the ability to move and gain confidence, which led to a trip to the Peabody Essex Museum.
There, she met dancer Jessica Flynn. “Callia saw a dancer as part of the exhibit and she sat down, took off her shoes and went over and started dancing,” Laura told WBZ-TV.
Callia and Flynn began dancing together in a sweet video Laura recorded. “It was like she had interacted with an angel. She was inspired by the dancer, she wanted to imitate her and I’ve never seen her dance like that before, but I’ve seen her dance like that many times since then.”
Flynn would change her movements so Callia could easily copy her.
Laura says the video may seem like a meaningless moment to some people, but to her and Callia it represents something more. “On the one hand it’s so simple. It’s a toddler dancing with a ballerina. And on the other hand it represents over a years worth of hard work and practice and strength building.”
