HIGHLAND COUNTY, OH (WCMH) — A washout caused by heavy storms caused a portion of a road near Hillsboro to collapse Wednesday afternoon.
It happened on State Route 785 near Burgess Lane.
According to WCPO, the road will likely be closed for weeks while crews repair a culvert.
A witness wold WCPO that the driver of a van narrowly escaped dropping into the newly formed hole.
“I saw the guardrail post was flopping on both sides, and I saw there was a van parked there, and I was telling him to back up,” Jerry Miller said. “As soon as he backed up, the road collapsed.”
Motorists are being detoured to State Route 73, State Route 32 and State Route 247 until the road can be repaired.
