WATCH: Clerk wrestles gun away from would-be robber

FREDERICK COUNTY, MD (WHAG) — Security video from a 7-Eleven store in Maryland shows an employee grabbing the end of a would-be robber’s rifle and yanking it out of the suspect’s hands.

Joseph Layman admits he wasn’t sure he would live through the experience, but says he wanted to fight for his life.

After working at 7-Eleven for five years, Layman has been promoted to night manager.

“The last thing that went through my mind is he could still shoot me even if I give him the money, so that’s why I reacted the way I did,” Layman says.

Layman’s family says they are proud of his actions and are thankful he’s still alive after the ordeal.

“I know it was a scary situation and he only had seconds to think about what he was going to do but I look at this way, he had a shot gun right between his eyes and as far as I’m concerned whether you knew it was loaded or not, you think about the opportunity of dying right there,” said Joseph’s father, William Layman.
