COLUMBUS (WCMH/WCNC)– A Charlotte, North Carolina high school student has some new-found fame after his performance at a talent show went viral.
It started out as your typical high school senior talent show, but Mike Senatore’s act was a performance that these students might never forget.
It’s something Senatore’s been doing for a couple of years and he’s gotten pretty good. He takes a partially-full bottle of water, flips it over, and tries to get it to stand straight up on a table in front of him.
“Bottle Flipping” is what he put down when he signed up for Ardrey Kell High School’s senior class talent show. He told WCNC it’s the only thing he thought he was good at.
“It’s surreal,” Senatore said to the North Carolina station. “It doesn’t make sense, I still can’t process it. I flipped a bottle and now I’m an internet sensation.”
He said his strategy is to use a Deer Park bottle with only one third of it filled with water. WCNC gave him an Aquafina bottle, but he wasn’t phased.
NBC4’s Mike Jackson and Jerod Smalley decided to try the trick on Wednesday night to close out our 11 p.m. show. Jackson, using a Dasani bottle, had better luck than Smalley, who utilized the classic Ice Mountain model.
Reports in the newsroom confirm that Smalley had been practicing his bottle flip before he went on-air and had several successful attemps.
“I feel like I was in a zone,” Jackson said about his performance. “I think it was the wrist action…you’ve just got to be in the zone.”
