MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA (WCMH) – Real-time traffic app Waze will now go beyond helping users dodge traffic issues; it will help drivers find the best parking spots.
According to NBC Bay Area, the new “where to park” feature shows drivers where the closest available parking spot to their destination is at and offers to add that spot to the GPS-guided route either before the route starts or when the driver nears his or her intended destination.
The new feature comes after Google-owned Waze partnered with INRIX, a traffic intelligence provider that shares data with companies about parking capacity.
Waze says that the company plans to introduce new parking-related features in the future.
“Driving around looking for spots impacts arrival times and adds unneeded frustration and stress to the entire driving experience,” said Waze’s chief of Business Development, Flavia Sasaki Siqueira, in a statement. “Waze has begun to rollout the first of its parking suite features to solve this issue for drivers. Combining INRIX parking information with our own parking database expands reach and accuracy of the ‘where to park’ feature.”
The feature is available on iOS and Android devices.
