LANSING, Mich. (WCMH) — For two high schoolers in Michigan, going to prom together “when pigs fly” is a heartwarming reality.
At Everett High School in Lansing, senior Vee Nguyen asked her friend Ben Davis if he would go to prom with her.
Davis has special needs and is confined to a wheelchair.
At Friday’s pep rally, Davis was wheeled out to the gym floor where students held a large box with the message “I’ll ask you to prom when pigs fly!” written across it.
The students removed the tape from over the box, and out flew three pink balloons, shaped like pigs.
A grinning Davis turned around to see Nguyen and handed her a rose while hundreds of classmates cheered.
“I met Ben Davis two years ago and ever since then we became really good friends,” Nguyen wrote on Facebook. “He is such a sweet person with a kind heart and it’s an honor being able to ask him to prom!”
Davis said yes, by the way.
According to the Detroit Free Press, Davis has a rare condition known as Pantothenate Kinase-Associated Neurodegeneration (PKAN).
