CHARLOTTE, NC (WCNC) — A Charlotte, North Carolina 11-year-old is making sure every baby in the NICU will get a visit from Santa this year. It’s something he started when his own little brother was in the hospital.
Alexander Fultz was just 5 when his little brother Benjamin was hospitalized.
“It was a little traumatic for all of us,” dad Troy said.
Alexander worried about his brother– and all the other kids in the hospital.
His mom Kristie remembers, “He said, ‘what happens on Christmas? How do the kids get to go home for Christmas?’ That’s when we explained that some kids aren’t well enough to go home for Christmas.”
So Alexander asked his parents if he could do something for the kids.
“He asked if he could go to the store and pick out some gifts with his allowance money. That year he donated six toys to the hospital. That was six years ago, and his parents estimate he’s since donated more than $6000 in toys, clothing and gifts to kids at the hospital,” Dad Troy says, “It’s amazing, the people he inspires, you see the light in their eyes.”
Fultz doesn’t meet the families he’s helping. He simply drops off the toys and the hospital delivers everything.
“No, I don’t get to see Santa give me gifts,” Alexander told NBC affiliate WCNC-TV when asked if he was bothered not getting to meet the families he helps. “It’s fun and I know I’m making a difference in my community– that’s kept me going.”
