BELIEVELAND (WCMH/AP) — A five-year-old boy tried to stay strong as his parents told him his favorite Cleveland Cavaliers player was gone, but the news was a little tough.
The parents caught it on camera.
“The Cavaliers traded Anderson Varejao,” the boy’s father says in the YouTube video.
“Who’d we get?” the boy, Geo, asks.
“Some guy from the Magic,” Dad answers.
“But the Magic are very bad!” Geo responds. “That’s a dumb pick!”
In the end, it is too much for him and he collapses into tears. Both parents try to comfort him.
Varejao, a Brazilian center, spent 12 seasons with Cleveland before being dealt last week to Portland in a three-team trade that sent Channing Frye from Orlando to the Cavaliers. The Trail Blazers immediately cut Varejao.
He signed with the Golden State Warriors on Monday after agreeing to a deal for the rest of the season.
In happier times, Geo recorded a “hype video” for the Cavs’ playoff run last year.
He and his parents are from the Columbus area.
