COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost is holding out hope that he can pick up an endorsement from President Donald Trump in Yost’s bid to be the next governor of Ohio, even though the president already endorsed billionaire businessman Vivek Ramaswamy.
“Well, it helps my opponent,” Yost said. “No, no doubt the President has endorsed multiple people before, so I remain hopeful that I can, I too, can earn his support. He did endorse me in 2022 for reelection as attorney general.”
Yost said Trump is known to do multiple endorsements and after serving as auditor of Ohio, as well as auditor and prosecutor in Delaware County, and now as state attorney general, Yost said what he brings to the job is experience.

“It’s not just that I’ve got good ideas or I can make a pretty speech, although hopefully I can do those things, too, but I’ve got a record of proven action and results, whether we’re talking about the auditor state, when I served for eight years and actually went in and found $260 million of efficiency savings,” he said. “As the state’s auditor, I was DOGE before DOGE was cool, or whether it’s my term as attorney general, pushing back against federal overreach and fighting to protect Ohioans in court.”
In addition to Ramaswamy, Yost is joined in the Republican gubernatorial primary by Morgan County business owner Heather Hill. On the Democratic side, only former Ohio Health Director Amy Acton has announced her candidacy.
