COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — The Republican field for Ohio governor is getting more crowded, and not just because businessman Vivek Ramaswamy is set to officially announce his candidacy on Monday.

Heather Hill, a Republican former school board president from Morgan County and a business owner, is now a gubernatorial candidate.

She said she wants to protect the Second Amendment and find solutions for property taxes and the housing crisis.

Hill also sees herself as an alternative candidate since so many Republican leaders in state government are simply running for each other’s offices.

“Well, one thing that I have been just overwhelmingly surprised at — the support from Ohio and all people all over the United States, not just Ohio,” Hill said. “Ohio is ready for change. We cannot change if we don’t change our administration. We cannot deal with the with the back-and-forth teetering checker game that’s happening with our state offices right now. You know, it’s the same group of people that are being kind of rotated musical chairs kind of thing that’s happening right now, and people are, people are tired of that. They want change, and they see me as a change agent, and I’m very proud to step into that role.”

As for Ramaswamy, who is not currently in office, Hill said Ohioans don’t want a billionaire — who cannot relate to everyday Ohioans — running the state.

Hill and Ramaswamy join Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost as declared Republican candidates for the governor’s race; on the Democratic side, former Ohio Health Director Amy Acton remains the only candidate to enter the race officially.
