First-round draft pick Cayden Lindstrom adjusts to life as a Blue Jacket

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — The Blue Jackets are hosting their development camp this week, providing a glimpse into the future.

Tuesday was the first of three straight days of practice at the OhioHealth Ice Haus before the prospects play an exhibition game on Friday. And it provided the first look at the Jackets’ top draft pick, Cayden Lindstrom, who was chosen fourth overall from the Medicine Hat Tigers.

“This week I’m just trying to have fun and take it all in. Obviously, development camp is where you try and try and showcase your skills kind of thing and and do the best,” Lindstrom said. “You need to get your habits to par and stay really consistent. I think I tweak little parts of my game like defensive, just staying consistent and not getting beat to pucks, and yeah, having a good stick and things like that. Just overall game as well.”

Last year’s 34th overall pick, Gavin Brindley, is also skating with the prospects this week. The former Michigan forward made his NHL debut back in April for the Blue Jackets.

“Keep on learning,” Brindley said. “I’m still pretty young and there’s a lot of experience on the ice with us, so I’m just going to learn and take it all in and just enjoy it.”
