INDIANAPOLIS (WCMH) — NCAA tournament hopes are on the line for the Ohio State men’s basketball team.

Following a disappointing end to the regular season with a loss at Indiana, the Buckeyes look to make a run in Indianapolis at the Big Ten tournament. OSU will open the postseason as the No. 10 seed, taking on No. 15 seed Iowa in the first round on Wednesday. The winner will advance to face No. 7 seed Illinois in the second round on Thursday.

Coach Jake Diebler thinks his team’s résumé is good enough to be in the tournament as is.

“I think our résumé is good. We’ve had some opportunities where we could have enhanced it even more. Our strength of schedule, the quality of wins, the quad one wins we have, all of that stuff stacks up in a really good way,” Diebler said.

Winning the whole tournament, which Ohio State hasn’t done since 2013, would lock up an automatic bid. But like all teams in March, the Buckeyes are taking it one game at a time.

“We need to control what we can control and that’s Wednesday’s game. Iowa is going to play their best ball of the year. We’re anticipating that and we need to do the same,” Diebler said. “Our focus right now is on Wednesday and that’s it. We know this is a big game for all the obvious reasons. There’s no hiding from that but we need to play well.”

Earlier this season, OSU defeated Iowa 82-65 in a game which the Buckeyes went on a 20-4 run to start the second half. Wednesday marks the third straight year that the two programs are meeting in the Big Ten tournament.

Tip-off for Wednesday’s first-round game is set for 6 p.m. and will be streamed exclusively on Peacock.
