COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Week 5 of the 2024 college football season was packed with drama, upsets, and highlight-reel plays. The titanic weekend caused the most significant shifts in the rankings this season, but the Buckeyes were unaffected.
Ohio State (4-0, 1-0) has stayed at No. 3 in both the Associated Press and USA Today coaches polls after its dominant 38-7 win over Michigan State in its Big Ten opener. In four wins this season, the Buckeyes have outscored opponents 195-27.
Six ranked teams lost Saturday, including three in the top-ten. No result was more significant than Alabama’s thrilling 41-34 win over Georgia in an instant classic. The Crimson Tide’s victory over the Bulldogs moved them up to No. 1 above Texas, making them the third different team to own the AP’s top ranking this season.
Former No. 6 Ole Miss lost at home to Kentucky 20-17, dropping the Runnin’ Rebels to No. 12 while the Big 12’s top team Utah also fell at home to Arizona 23-10. The Utes went from No. 10 down to No. 18. Missouri and Michigan joined the top-ten in the new rankings.
