COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Former Ohio State University Buckeye quarterback Justin Fields is heading to Pittsburgh.

Fields is heading to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a conditional sixth-round draft pick that could become a fourth-round pick depending on play time, according to reports.

Fields, who was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 2021, started 13 games in 2023 and finished the season with 2,562 passing yards, 16 touchdowns and a completion percentage of 61.4%. Known for his scrambling ability while a Buckeye, Fields added four rushing touchdowns during his third year with the franchise.

Fields, who led the Buckeyes to a national championship appearance in 2020, was drafted 11th overall by the Bears who traded up nine spots to select Fields.

When he was drafted, Fields was the highest Ohio State quarterback selected since 1982 when the Baltimore Colts selected Art Schlichter with the No. 4 overall pick. CJ Stroud eclipsed both men when he was drafted No. 2 overall by the Houston Texans in the 2023 draft.

Fields led OSU to a 20-2 record in two seasons, including two trips to the College Football Playoff and a dominating semifinal win over Clemson in 2021.

He finished his career at Ohio State with 5,373 yards passing, 78 total touchdowns, nine interceptions and a 68% completion percentage while winning Big Ten offensive player of the year twice.

Fields is on his last year of his four-year deal with the Bears.

Fields will join a revamped Steelers quarterback room, with Pittsburgh coming to terms with Russell Wilson for a one-year, $1.21 million deal Friday.
