COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Ohio State was able to comeback from a 17-point deficit in the third quarter, but the fourth-seeded Buckeyes failed to take control and fell short of the Sweet 16 for the second year in a row after losing to Tennessee 82-67.

Cotie McMahon and Jaloni Cambridge combined for 36 of OSU’s 67 points but they were no match for the Volunteers, who saw four different players score in double figures. Tennessee took advantage of Ohio State’s 23 turnovers, scoring 37 points off them.

“Credit Tennessee. I thought they played really well, and they deserved to win today,” OSU coach Kevin McGuff said. “Certainly they sped us up, and we didn’t handle it very well. I thought we were in the right spots, but really not making good decisions when we had to go to a little bit higher rate of speed.”

Talaysia Cooper had 19 points, eight rebounds, seven steals and five assists and Zee Spearman added 17 points and five rebounds for the Volunteers.

Tennessee advances to the regional rounds in Birmingham while Ohio State exits the tournament in the second round for the second year in a row.

This was the fourth meeting between the two schools in the NCAA tournament but first since 2016. The Volunteers won the previous three postseason contests.
