Redemption for Howard as Ohio State beats Penn State, 20-13

First down Ohio State. First down Will Howard. And win number seven for the Buckeyes.

An anxiety filled final drive but Will Howard moves the chains on third down and Ohio State runs out the clock.

OSU wins 20-13 over Penn State.

Tyler Warren got Penn State knocking at the doorstep with his 33-yard rush to the three-yard line.

But the Ohio State defense pulls off a goal line stand and keeps the Nittany Lions out of the endzone.

Jayden Fielding BARELY gets the 39 yard attempt through. And Ohio State is up 20-13. 10:13 to go in the game.

With that last catch, an 18-yard reception, Jeremiah Smith has passed Cris Carter for most receiving yards by an Ohio State freshman. He only needed 25 entering the day.

He’s still a touchdown away from breaking Carter’s record.

Drew Allar goes down twice and the Ohio State defense does it job. Buckeyes get the ball back as the third quarter comes to a close.

PSU defense really putting the pressure on Will Howard, who is sacked twice on that drive. The last one was by Abdul Carter, who had sack earlier in the game.

Ohio State forced to punt for the second time today as the Nittany Lions have a chance to take the lead.

Announced crowd of 111,030 is a new attendance record at Beaver Stadium.

Ryan Barker connects for his second field goal of the day. This one is a 44-yarder that gets Penn State within four, 17-13.

Jayden Fielding gets the 46-yard field goal to extend the Ohio State lead to 17-10 in the third quarter.

Some stats worth looking at as Ohio State leads 14-10 over Penn State

– Buckeyes have more total yardage (191-145) and Penn State has been limited to just 66 passing yards.

– Ohio State has turned the ball over twice, with the Nittany Lions scoring their only touchdown off of Will Howard’s lone interception. PSU turned the ball over once.

– Both teams have made exactly 32 plays in the first half.

OSU gets the ball to start the second half.

What an ending to the first half. Drew Allar’s pass intended for Harrison Wallace is intercepted by Davison Igbinosun in the endzone. It’s ruled a touchback so a chance for Penn State to take the lead is thwarted by the Buckeyes, who head into the locker room with a 14-10 lead.

We’re at the two minute break after Howard gets taken down by Abdul Carter. Been a rough couple of drives for the OSU quarterback. Penn State gets the ball back in likely the final drive of the half.

So Will Howard loses the ball and it’s ruled a touchback as he lost the ball over the pylon of the endzone, giving the ball back to Penn State.

What a blow to the OSU offense, which had so much momentum coming out of this drive.

Will Howard doing everything with his legs to get the ball over the goal line but it appears that Howard lost the ball at the one yard line.

Buckeyes go for it on fourth down for the first time this afternoon and the gamble pays off in a crazy way. Jelani Thurman with the 19-yard catch and OSU operates from the 30-yard line.

Since throwing the early interception, Will Howard has gone 8-for-12 for 95 yards and two touchdowns.

The Downingtown West graduate has a lot to prove coming into this game.

Buckeyes were about to face fourth down but Elliot Washington II gets penalized for taunting. The flag gives Ohio State 15 yards and the drive is still alive.

Penn State leads Ohio State, 10-7. After the early mistake by Will Howard, he’s driving the OSU offense. Buckeyes at their own 27-yard line.

Drew Allar’s deep pass to Liam Clifford is broken up by Davison Igbinosun. No flags on the play and Penn State is forced to punt.

And after the early mistake, Ohio State is on the board. It’s 10-7 Penn State with 1:59 to go in the first quarter.

Haven’t seen this in awhile. Just picked up 33 yards on a couple of carries.

Facing third down, Will Howard throws an interception to Zion Tracy, who returns it 31 yards for the touchdown. Penn State off to a 10-0 start over Ohio State.

Jeremiah Smith was the intended receiver.

The revolving door continues at left tackle for Ohio State. With Josh Simmons out for the year and now Zen Michalski injured, Donovan Jackson moves to left tackle. As a result, backup center Carson Hinzman is at left guard.

The Nittany Lions drove deep down the field and got to the 12 yard line but the defense forces PSU to settle for a field goal. Ryan Barker drills the 29-yarder to put the home team on the board first.

He was a gametime decision but Drew Allar does make the start at quarterback for Penn State though he is dealing with a tender knee, per the broadcast. It’s quite possible we see two quarterbacks for the Nittany Lions this afternoon.
