COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Ohio State’s spring football season now has a start date.
The Buckeyes announced that spring practice will begin on March 17 with 15 days of practice over a four-week span. A “Spring Showcase” is scheduled for April 12 at Ohio Stadium, which matches the weekend the spring game took place last year. Ohio State is set to release details on this showcase later.
The spring football season will start less than two months after the Buckeyes claimed their ninth national championship over Notre Dame 34-23 in Atlanta on Jan. 20. Ohio State’s title game win concluded the first 12-team playoff where the Buckeyes also beat Tennessee in Columbus, Oregon at the Rose Bowl, and Texas in the Cotton Bowl.
Head coach Ryan Day will have a shuffled staff for the 2025 season after offensive coordinator Chip Kelly departed for the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders and defensive coordinator Jim Knowles took the same role at Penn State.
Wide receivers coach Brian Hartline is reportedly set to be promoted as the offensive coordinator while tight ends coach Keenan Bailey will reportedly also be promoted to co-offensive coordinator. The Buckeyes will also have a new offensive line coach: former Virginia Tech offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen.
Ohio State is still searching for a new defensive coordinator. The Buckeyes begin their national title defense on Aug. 30 when they host Texas at Ohio Stadium in a rematch of last season’s Cotton Bowl.
