COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Just days before a top five matchup at Ohio Stadium, Ohio State center Seth McLaughlin suffered a torn Achilles tendon in practice Tuesday. The Alabama transfer will be out for the rest of the season.
Head coach Ryan Day confirmed McLaughlin’s injury Wednesday night and said Carson Hinzman will be back at center to take his place while Austin Siereveld will play at left guard.
McLaughlin started all ten games for the Buckeyes this season. He is considered a critical part of the OSU offensive line that has undergone changes after losing left tackle Josh Simmons to a season-ending knee injury suffered during the Oct. 12 loss at Oregon.
Prior to arriving at Ohio State, the 6-foot-4, 305 pound Georgia native started 24 games over three seasons for the Crimson Tide, playing in 35 games overall.
McLaughlin is well accomplished off the field as well. He’s raised over $10,000 to fight food insecurity, selling “Run the Damn Ball” hats to fans with proceeds benefitting the Mid Ohio Food Collective. Last month, McLaughlin was named a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, college football’s premier scholar-athlete award.
The Buckeyes, ranked No. 2 in the country, are preparing to host No. 5 Indiana on Saturday. The Hoosiers are unbeaten at 10-0, its best start in program history.
