WESTERVILLE, Ohio (WCMH) — Westerville North is one of the top high school boys basketball teams in the state, on a historic run to the state semifinals following Saturday’s 79-50 win against Big Walnut.
Westerville North last made it to states in the mid 90s, and at the time, they actually reached the state semis three straight years. This team is led by three brothers, three players who have grown up together. All three start and two of the three lead the team in points.
Tai Perkins, who scored 32 against Big Walnut, averages more than 14 points per game. This is his senior year and he will play at Akron next season. His younger brother Tyson is a sophomore. Their stepbrother Micah Young is also a senior and averages 14 points per game.
“We are a family within a family,” Young said.
Not only are the three brothers extremely tight, but the team as a whole is, too. This deep postseason run is something they have been working toward for a long time.
The team has talked about winning a state championship and the opportunity is almost here.
This will be the only season all three brothers will start. With Tai and Micah graduating in the spring, this is their shot to do something historic together at Westerville North.
