BRADENTON, Florida (WKBN) – Former Cleveland Indians and Pittsburgh Pirates relief pitcher Scott Sauerbeck has died at the age of 53.

John Perrotto, of PGH Baseball Now is reporting that Sauerbeck suffered a heart attack in Bradenton, Florida on Tuesday. Sauerbeck pitched 341 games for Pittsburgh after making his Major League debut with the Pirates in 1999.

The Pirates released the following statement on social media on Thursday:

The Pirates family mourns the passing of Scott Sauerbeck. Scott played for the Bucs from 1999-2–3 and shares the club record for most games pitched by a LHP in one season. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.

Pittsburgh Pirates

Sauerbeck was traded by the Pirates to Boston in 2003. Following one season with the Red Sox, the left-hander signed with Cleveland as a free agent in 2004 and appeared in 82 games with the Indians. He posted a record of 1-1 with a 4.62 ERA. He was released by the Indians in 2006.

In seven seasons in MLB, Sauerbeck posted a career record of 20-17 with a 3.82 ERA with 5 saves with Pittsburgh, Boston, Cleveland, and Oakland.
