COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — The Pittsburgh Steelers are bringing a four-time NFL MVP winner to its quarterback room for the 2025 season.
Multiple reports said that Aaron Rodgers is expected to sign a one-year contract with the Steelers ahead of the team’s minicamp that begins next week. Rumors were swirling for months that the Super Bowl XLV MVP winner would sign with Pittsburgh as the Steelers continue to search for a successor to Ben Roethlisberger.
While the 41-year-old Rodgers is not the answer to the future at quarterback for the Steelers, he will be the starter to begin the 2025 season. He will be the veteran in a quarterback room that includes former Ohio State QB Will Howard.
After a successful 15 seasons with the Green Bay Packers, Rodgers spent two years with the New York Jets. His first season with the Jets ended on the first drive of the season after suffering a season-ending injury. In 2024, he started each game for the Jets and threw for over 3,800 yards and 11 touchdowns. New York went 5-12.
Right off the bat, Rodgers will have a rematch as he is set to make his Steelers debut against the Jets in New York on Sept. 7 in week one. Starting on the opposite side will be former Steelers and Buckeyes quarterback Justin Fields. Rodgers will also face the Packers for the first time in his career when the Steelers host Green Bay on Oct. 26 on “Sunday Night Football” on NBC4.
