CLEVELAND (WCMH) — The 2023 NFL defensive player of the year Myles Garrett wants to leave the Cleveland Browns before the 2025 season.

The 29-year-old star defensive end for the Browns announced his desire to be traded this offseason from Cleveland, according to multiple reporters who obtained Garrett’s statement.

“While I’ve loved calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won’t allow me to be complacent,” wrote Garrett. “The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, it has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl. With that in mind, I have requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns.”

Reports said that Browns general manager Andrew Berry’s stance is to not hear trade offers for one of the best defensive players in the NFL. Teams chasing for Garrett could give the Browns a significant haul to acquire the generational defensive end.

Since being the No. 1 overall pick by Cleveland in the 2017 NFL Draft, Garrett is on pace to be one of the best pass rushers in NFL history. In his first eight seasons, the Texas A&M alum has played in 117 games and has already recorded 102.5 sacks, becoming the first player to hit the 100 sacks mark before turning 29.

Garrett has played in three postseason games in which Cleveland has a 1-2 record. After making the playoffs in 2023, the Browns finished the 2024 season 3-14 and own the No. 3 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
