CLEVELAND (WCMH) — The Cleveland Browns will reportedly be adding a Super Bowl-champion quarterback to its roster next season.
Multiple reports from NFL insiders said the Browns will acquire Kenny Pickett in a trade with the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles. Cleveland will be sending a fifth-round pick in this year’s NFL Draft along with quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson in the trade for Pickett, per reports.
The 26-year-old Pittsburgh alum was the backup for Super Bowl MVP QB Jalen Hurts last season for the Eagles. The expectation will be Pickett serving as Cleveland’s backup to Deshaun Watson, who has missed significant time the past two seasons with injuries.
After being named the ACC Player of the Year in 2021, the ex-Pitt Panther was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round of 2022 NFL Draft as the team’s successor to Ben Roethlisberger.
Pickett started 25 games for the Steelers over the 2022 and 2023 seasons, going 7-5 as the starter in each year. He suffered injuries in both seasons and requested a trade from Pittsburgh after the team signed Russell Wilson. In one season in Philadelphia, Pickett started once, played in seven other games, and won a Super Bowl ring.
