DUBLIN, Ohio (WCMH) — The world’s best golfer is set to defend his title next month at the Memorial Tournament.

Tournament organizers announced Wednesday that No. 1-ranked Scottie Scheffler will join the field at the Memorial, with festivities set to begin on May 26 before the first round starts on May 29.

Scheffler, 28, joins major winners Justin Thomas and Shane Lowry and British fan-favorite Tommy Fleetwood for the tournament’s 50th event at Muirfield Village. Additional announcements of golfers playing in Dublin this year are expected in the coming weeks.

Scheffler won the 2024 Memorial Tournament by one stroke, finishing the week 8-under par. The win saw Scheffler become the second golfer (after another Memorial Tournament stalwart, Tiger Woods) to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the Players Championship, the Masters, and the Memorial Tournament in the same year. He also won the FedEx Cup and an Olympic gold medal last season as well.

Thomas, 32, will be making his 11th Memorial start, where he’s finished in the top 20 three times; his average at Murifield Village Golf Club is 72.38 with career earnings of more than $915,000.

Starting in his ninth Memorial, Lowry, 38, has a career scoring average at the course of 72.54 and three top-20 finishes with career earnings of more than $876,000.

The 34-year-old Fleetwood hasn’t had a lot of luck in four previous Memorial Tournament starts, but has racked up plenty of wins on the PGA Tour, including nine top 10s in the 2022-2023 season for more than $6.5 million in earnings.

The Memorial Tournament will be played at Murifield Village Golf Club in Dublin with events starting on May 26 all the way to the final round on June 1. For more information and to purchase tickets, click here or call the Tournament Ticket Office at 877-682-2343 (877-MT-BADGE).

Children 15 and under can attend the Tournament for free with a ticketed adult. Daily practice round tickets for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are also available. The cost is $60, and they are valid for all three practice-round days.
