Liverpool made it three wins on the bounce in all competitions with a 2–1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in north London, courtesy of goals from strike duo Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike.

While Isak’s opener—just his second Premier League goal since his £125 million ($170 million) move from Newcastle United in the summer—was a welcome sight for both supporters and manager Arne Slot, the aftermath quickly dampened the mood.

Only minutes after breaking the deadlock, the Swede went down injured following a challenge from Micky van de Ven, requiring several minutes of treatment on the pitch before eventually being forced off, with Jeremie Frimpong introduced in his place.

With the Reds finally finding their rhythm after a difficult start to the season and Isak beginning to show signs of form, news of a potential injury comes as a bitter blow for Slot and Liverpool fans alike.

Here is the latest update on the Liverpool forward’s condition.

What Injury Does Isak Have?

While news of the exact details of Isak’s injury are yet to be revealed by Liverpool, it is clear the Sweden international has hurt his leg.

The initial fear was that Isak may have suffered the dreaded anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury—a serious and often long-term injury—but reports have suggested the Swede’s condition may not be so serious. He has been sent for tests to determine the severity of his injury.

Speaking after the game, Slot did not divulge any specifics but admitted the signs were worrying.

“I don’t have any news on him, but if a player scores, then gets injured and then doesn’t come back on the pitch and doesn’t try to come back—which Conor Bradley, for example, did, but I had to take him off as well because he couldn’t go on—but if a player doesn’t even try to come back, that’s usually not a good thing,” he said. “But I cannot say anything more than that, that is just a gut feeling. Nothing medical to say about it.”

Slot added: “I haven’t spoken to him about it yet. It’s a good thing that he scored—a good goal, assisted by Florian Wirtz.”

The length of Isak’s lay-off depends entirely on the severity of his injury.

In a best-case scenario—such as a minor ankle sprain—he could be sidelined for around 2–6 weeks. A more serious high ankle sprain would likely mean a longer absence of roughly 8–10 weeks.

In the worst-case scenario, if Isak has suffered damage to his ACL, the former Newcastle striker could be out for as long as nine months.

At this stage, it is all conjecture, with Liverpool yet to issue an official update. Either way, it appears the Reds will be without their record signing for a significant period.
