SUNBURY, Ohio (WCMH) — One person is dead and four others injured in a crash that closed all lanes of a portion of Interstate 71 near the Tanger Outlets north of Columbus Sunday night.

One person was pronounced dead due to the crash; four others were hospitalized and expected to survive their injuries, a spokesperson with the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

According to the Ohio Department of Transportation, all lanes of I-71 southbound near US-36/State Route 37 were closed due to the crash; the roadway has since reopened. 

According to the highway patrol, a car driving north on I-71 lost control and crossed over into the southbound lanes, hitting another vehicle.

The multiple-vehicle crash happened at approximately 5 p.m.

There is no word on the victims’ identities or what caused the vehicle to lose control.
