COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — NBC4 was there to see the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force arrest a violent suspect on Thursday morning as part of our Warrant Watch partnership.

Tyriq Jeffers is facing charges of felonious assault, kidnapping, strangulation and weapons under disability.

“We have tried to arrest him before and we surrounded the building and tried to come in through the front door but he was able to escape out the back and evade capture, so this time what we did was we came from all sides at the same time, surrounded the building, and we were able to take him into custody,” Deputy Kevin Deppe, task force supervisor for the U.S. Marshals Service Southern District of Ohio, said.

His charges stem from an incident last September. He is accused of hitting a woman, who is also the mother of his child, in the head with a firearm multiple times. Arrest records said he also attempted to strangle the woman.

According to court records, the woman was able to escape and called police while he was in the shower. They found Jeffers behind a home asleep inside his car. The task force also found Jeffers with several firearms as well as marijuana and cash.

“What we’ll do is hand those weapons over to the sheriff’s department and the sheriff’s office will then bring charges, whatever the applicable charges are for those cases,” Deppe said.

He said the goal is to get the most violent criminals off the streets and do this in the safest way possible.
