Columbus (WCMH) – We are setting up for what appears to be the coolest night of the season so far. We have not yet had a night with a low in the 30s officially in Columbus, although most everyone else has. Tonight everyone should push into the 30s for lows.
Many areas are under a Frost Advisory overnight tonight from 3AM-9AM Tuesday:
The National Weather Service issues the Frost Advisories until widespread freeze occurs across the county. However, if this does not occur by November 1st, then the program ends for most (Nov. 7th for Franklin, Pickaway, Pike, & Ross counties). When the program is over, it means that there will no longer be any Frost Advisories/warnings issued.
It is important to note, that the official temperatures are taken a 5′ above ground level, that is why we can see frost on the ground level, with temps above freezing on the thermometer reading.Have we had our first freeze yet?
No, not yet, in fact, we have only dipped to 40 so far in Columbus (at the Airport). We have been cooler in other spots in town, but the official reporting station is the airport.
In Columbus, our first freeze normally occurs around October 27th. You will notice in the graphic above, the most likely period falls between the middle of October through the first week of November. We have gone as long as the end of November (27th) before for our first freeze.

- Oct 12th Newark (hit 33 on Oct 14th this year, no freeze yet)
- Oct 14th Bellefontaine
- Oct 14th Delaware (hit 32 on Oct 10th this year)
- Oct 17th Chillicothe
- Oct 19th Circleville
- Oct 20th Kenton
- Oct 21st Washington Court House
- Oct 22nd Marysville
- Oct 27th Columbus (John Glenn Columbus International Airport)
