More snow on the way this weekend

COLUMBUS (WCMH)–Spring arrived on Tuesday, but winter is holding on tightly, after a light coating of snow on Wednesday in the Columbus metro area and chilly days despite a full day of sunshine on Thursday and Friday.

Although the snow has all but melted, with the aid of brilliant sunshine, the thermometer has been struggling to get into the mid-40s, when the average high in Columbus is 54 degrees.

A winter storm developing in the central Plains will move southeast, on Saturday, bringing a swath of mixed rain and snow snow across the southwestern part of the state. A Winter Weather Advisory has been posted for late Friday night and Saturday for areas south of Washington Court House and Dayton, and a Winter Storm Warning was issued for the Cincinnati area and northern Kentucky along the Ohio River. The heaviest snow will likely fall from Springfield, Illinois, to Indianapolis and Cincinnati, where 3 to 6 inches could accumulate through Saturday night.

In central Ohio, expect a sharp cut-off to the accumulating south of Columbus. The path of the storm will dictate the snowfall pattern, which could still shift a little to the north a little, so stay tuned to NBC4 for the latest forecasts.
