COLUMBUS (WCMH) – The Ohio State University is warning fans about an increase in counterfeit tickets for this weekend’s big game.

“The only safe way for you to buy tickets to this weekend’s game is to go through The Ohio State Athletics Ticket Office, Ticketmaster, and Buckeyes Ticket Exchange,” said assistant athletics director for communications at OSU Dan Wallenberg.

OSU says fans buying tickets from second-market sellers, like StubHub or Craig’s List, assume the risk that their tickets are counterfeit or have invalid barcodes.

“We had more than 100 counterfeit tickets at the Nebraska game, primarily the print at home type,” he said.

And if you’re ticket is fake, you’ll be out of luck at the gate on game day.

“You’ll be denied entry and there’s not a thing we can do for you,” he said.

Wallenberg said they’re expecting counterfeiters to duplicate hard-copy tickets, even with a fake foil stamp.

But, local second-market seller, dreamseats.com, said they guarantee all of their tickets.

“I completely understand their position with they’re not responsible for what happens in the secondary ticket market,” said vice president of Dream Seats Inc. Brian Kaufmann. “We do take great precautions on how we purchased and resell our tickets.”

He said every person they buy from they know personally and if they don’t, they copy their ID and information.

“If it’s someone you don’t know, that you’ve just met randomly online the phone number gotten is probably not going to work after game day,” said Kaufmann.  “If it’s too good to be true, it probably is.”Tap here for OSU’s digital ticket guide
