COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Former Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields is reportedly heading to the Big Apple to play with two of his Buckeye teammates in the NFL.
Multiple reports said that Fields is expected to sign a two-year, $40 million deal with the New York Jets. He is set to receive $30 million guaranteed from the Jets after spending just one season with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The ex-Buckeye looks primed to become the new starter in New York and two of his passing targets will be receiver Garrett Wilson and tight end Jeremy Ruckert, who both played with Fields at Ohio State during the 2019 and 2020 seasons.
All three were part of a potent Buckeyes offense that made the 2020 national championship game, where they lost to Alabama. Fields went 20-2 as the Ohio State starter before being taken 11th overall by the Chicago Bears in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Fields started for three seasons in Chicago and went 15-28 as the Bears’ starter. At this time in 2024, he was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He started six games with the Steelers last season and made his first NFL playoff appearance.
His next task will be to turn around the Jets, who have not made the playoffs since 2010.
