CANAL WINCHESTER, Ohio (WCMH) – A national fast food chain known for its burgers and custard is planning to build a new central Ohio location.

Culver’s has proposed a new restaurant at 6450 Gender Road in Canal Winchester. At a city Planning and Zoning Commission meeting on April 14, commissioners detailed a franchisee’s plan to construct a 4,386-square-foot restaurant with a drive-thru on a 3.11-acre lot.

The commission recommended the plan to city council, which will have the final say. Franchisee Jake Haman said at the meeting he owns a Culver’s in Wisconsin and was looking for expansion opportunities.

Culver’s is known for its “ButterBurgers,” which feature fresh beef and buns brushed with butter. The fast food joint’s menu also features frozen custard, chicken tenders, chicken sandwiches, seafood, salad and soups, as well as sides such as French fries, onion rings and cheese curds.

Culver’s was founded in Sauk City, Wisconsin, in 1984. The chain has about 1,000 eateries across 26 states, a majority of which are franchises. Culver’s has 27 locations in Ohio, including three local eateries in Reynoldsburg, Powell and Hilliard Green.

Culver’s is quickly expanding, with the restaurant chain planning to open 55 locations in the country this year, according to its annual franchise disclosure agreement. The chain opened 53 locations last year.

A spokesperson with Culver’s told NBC4 they could not share any further details regarding the potential Canal Winchester restaurant.
