New York-style pizzeria to open first Columbus eatery in vacant spot

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A New York-style pizzeria with locations in Cincinnati and several other states is expanding with its first central Ohio restaurant and speakeasy.

Goodfellas Pizzeria is aiming to open this spring in the Short North at 608 N. High St., a space most recently home to a dry cleaning business named Callander Cleaners that closed in 2016. The new Columbus spot will mark the brand’s 11th location, joining two Cincinnati eateries, four in Kentucky, three in Indiana and one in Tennessee.

New York native Alex Coats and business partner Eric Boggs founded the pizzeria 18 years ago with its first location in Lexington. The brand is home to a series of specialty pies like the “Fuhgetaboutit” packed with every available topping, or the “Wise Guy” with green peppers, onions, mushrooms, black olives and tomatoes.

Customers can also build their own pizza, or choose from a selection of calzones, subs and salads. Several sides, like meatballs and buffalo chicken cheese bread, along with desserts, including cannoli’s and New York cheesecake, round out the restaurant’s offerings.

Each Goodfellas location is also home to the Wiseguy Lounge, a speakeasy with bourbon, cocktails and beers. Patrons can pick between signature, classic or seasonal cocktails, like “The Godfather” with 1792 Small Batch Bourbon or the “Mexican Shakedown” with Monte Alban Tequila. Alcohol-free options are also available.

Guests can join Wiseguy’s bourbon club with rewards for those wishing to sample through the location’s extensive bourbon collection.

While hours vary, most Goodfellas locations are open 11 a.m. to midnight Monday through Friday. Then, Friday into Saturday and Saturday into Sunday, the pizzerias stay open until 3 a.m. On Saturday and Sunday during the day, the locations are open 11 a.m. to midnight.
