COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – The Mid-Ohio Farm at NBC4 is about to be taken to the next level.
Construction of a new fence around the farm will delineate the boundaries and provide a secure entrance to neighbors in our community.
The fence is the next step in adding a community garden to the urban area.
Our neighbors, many of them recent immigrants to America, will soon have access to the garden throughout the year.
The farm began in 2022 after members of NBC4 noticed neighbors growing container gardens of produce on their own.
Farm managers now said they’re putting out an even larger welcome mat.
“This will give them the ability to access the space, outside of our operational hours, after work, or even before they go to work in the morning, just to get them closely acclimated to the way we grow things in Ohio,” Mid-Ohio Food Collective Farm Director Trevor Horn said.
In addition to a bevy of fresh vegetables, we’ve also planted 124 fruit trees at the Mid-Ohio Farm at NBC4. The produce will help our immediate neighbors and those who rely on help from the Mid-Ohio Food Collective.
