COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — The Ohio State women’s basketball team has won its last 11 straight and thanks to some upsets, the Buckeyes are now a top-two team.
OSU (21-3, 12-1) have been ranked No. 2 in the new Associated Press poll thanks to road wins over Minnesota 71-47 on Thursday and an 86-71 win at Michigan State on Sunday. This is the fourth consecutive week the Buckeyes have climbed up in the rankings and it is the second straight season they have earned the No. 2 ranking.
The move up to No. 2 was also facilitated after losses this past week from all but one of the four teams ranked above OSU last week.
No. 2 Iowa, No. 3 NC State, and No. 4 Colorado all lost with the Hawkeyes’ defeat putting the Buckeyes in first place in the Big Ten standings. Iowa guard Caitlin Clark and her side dropped to No. 4 as Clark is eight points away from breaking the NCAA women’s scoring record. No. 1 South Carolina extended its unbeaten record to 23-0 and its regular season win streak to 67.
The first place No. 2 Buckeyes will now try and extend its winning streak to 12 as they host Nebraska on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Valentine’s Day game will be streamed exclusively on Peacock. To learn about how to use Peacock, click here.
After playing the Cornhuskers, OSU will just four regular season games to go before the Big Ten tournament in Minneapolis from Mar. 6-10.
