COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — The U.S. Marshals fugitive apprehension team removed several guns during an early morning arrest last Thursday.

The weapons were taken from a suspect already wanted for kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon under disability and strangulation or suffocation. Among other things, the suspect is accused of using a gun to hit a woman in the face.

“What we’ll do is will hand those weapons over to the sheriff’s department and the sheriff’s office will then bring charges, whatever the applicable charges are for those cases,” U.S. Marshals Service Task Force Supervisor Deputy Kevin Deppe said.

U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of Ohio Michael Black said the case is a perfect example of why the partnernship between his office and NBC4 is so important; NBC4 was there on a ride along when the arrest was made

“It’s always good that you’re out there to see exactly what our team does,” Black said. “The awareness that our team uses when we approach, try to apprehend these fugitives and get them off the street and all the measures that are taken to make sure these apprehensions are made safely.”

Deputy U.S. marshals said the suspect, who evaded arrest before, was found asleep in a car parked behind a house.

This week’s warrant watch

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office wants to find Darius Carter, 25. He is wanted on several charges including improper handling of a firearm, tampering with evidence, and trafficking drugs.

According to court records, Carter was involved in a crash and was seen throwing a gun from a car and was found with 89 grams of methamphetamine.

Additionally, court records allege Carter ran from a traffic stop, tossed a gun, and had cocaine in his possession.

“We don’t know what he’s going to do next, but we know if we stop him, we apprehend him and get him off of the street, he’s not going to have an opportunity to commit another crime and that’s our goal,” Black said.
